 (20Noverber2017) The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon (Lok Sin Tong)held the Lok Sin Tong 137thAnniversary“Towards Another Milestone in Benevolent”Charity Galatonightat InterContinental Hong Kong. Dr Law Chi-kwong, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare was invited to officiate the event where the philanthropic guests gathered to raise fund for the “Lok Sin Tong Caring Fund” and “Lok Sin Tong Welfare Building RenewalFund” that helps drives us to a new milestone for future development.

Chairman of Lok Sin Tong, Ir. KWOK Yu Won, Ericsaid in the welcome speech that with a century-long history in Hong Kong, Lok Sin Tong has not been only providing traditional social welfare services, but also launching a range of innovative welfare projects to serve the public. In light of the immense demand of grassroots’ housing, we have launched the Lok Sin Tong Community-based Housing Movement(the Movement)in November. We arevery glad to have the support of Henderson Land Development Company Limited who leased its residential building at Fuk Lo Tsun Road, Kowloon City to us, so that we can provide homes to low-income families as a sharing community where also makes good use of our service network to provide medical careand job opportunities for the needy. The Movement was well received by the public and the qualified households are expected to be moving in mid-Decemeber. Mr. Kwok also gave his heartfelt thanks to all of the generous donors and hoped Lok Sin Tong would continue to earn supports from all walks of life, so that we can help and support more people in need.

Delivering the thank you speech at the event, Chairman of the Annual Gala Committee and Vice-chairman of LokSin Tong, Mrs. Chan Lee Yuk Pui, Kawina said,in order to ensure the services with sustainable development, Lok Sin Tong’s headquarter in Kowloon City would be reconstructed to a 12-storey social services complex housing various social service units, including medical centre, elderly home and children rehabilitation centre. With a more efficient use of land resources, the

number of beneficiaries is anticipated to be 60,000 persons per year, which is 6 times more than the current beneficiaries. Mrs. Chan also claimed that due to the immense budget for the reconstruction project, the gala not only inaugurated the project, but also hope to gather resources by founding the “Lok Sin Tong Welfare Building RenewalFund”.

Another Chairman of the Annual Gala Committee and Vice-chairman of Lok Sin Tong, Dr. Pang Chi Wang, Peter mentioned in his thank you speech that besides raising fund for the reconstruction project, the annual gala also raises fund for the “Lok Sin Tong Caring Fund” every year since 2009, and nearly 10 million had already been issued to assist individuals and families who had urgent financial needs due to accidents. Dr. Pang stressed that Lok Sin Tong would never cease to serve the society as he recounted the fund was launched 8 years ago with the witness of Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, the then Secretary for Labour and Welfare, now with 8 years apart, Lok Sin Tong is launching a reconstruction project of the main building.

The charity gala received generous donations from donors from all walks oflife in which various donors sponsored the “Lok Sin Tong Welfare Building RenewlFund” including HK$1.08 million from Chairman Ir. Kwok Yu Won, Eric and HK$1 million from Mr. and Mrs.Chan Tat Wah, who also donated another HK$ 1 million to found the scheme to “SupportChildren with Special Educational Needs” with the objectives to provide supports for children with special educational needs.

During the fundraising night, alist of singers including Elisa Chan, Adrian Chau Chi-man, Lori Chow, Sheldon Lo and Ricco Ng performed a series of popular hits that brought an unforgettable, fun-filled nights to the guests.
