Seasonal Influenza Vaccination (SIV) School Outreach Scheme
Seasonal influenza (Influenza) is an acute illness of the respiratory tract caused by influenza viruses. For healthy individuals, seasonal influenza is usually self-limiting with recovery in 2 – 7 days. However, influenza can be a serious illness to the weak and frail or children, and may be complicated by bronchitis, chest infection or even death. It is recommended for children 6 months to 11 years for reducing such influenza-related complications. Qualified school children can get subsidized influenza vaccination at school with a subsidy from government.
In line with Department of Health’s call, The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon (Lok Sin Tong) launched the SIV School Outreach Scheme in the winter influenza peak season. The professional outreach team from Lok Sin Tong will provide quadrivalent influenza vaccines at schools to prevent influenza transmission in school and community, thus protecting health of school children and their parents. Qualified school children will receive free vaccination.
