Lok Sin Tong Charity Candy Campaign 2018
Singer Vincy Chan Fully Supported the Fundraising Candy Sales

(17 March 2018, Hong Kong) Organized by The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, the annual fundraising event “Lok Sin Tong Charity Candy Campaign 2018” starts from today to 25 March 2018 over two consecutive weekends. To mark the occasion, Lok Sin Tong held a kick-off ceremony this afternoon at Lok Fu Place. Ms. Kwan Shuk Yee, Nancy, District Social Welfare Officer (Kowloon City/Yau Tsim Mong), Social Welfare Department officiated at the ceremony while singer Vincy Chan, as the ambassador of the campaign, showed her support by singing as well as conducting charity candy sale.   

Ir. Kwok Yu Won, Eric, Chairman of Lok Sin Tong, said in the ceremony that it is one of the flagship fundraising events that has been successfully held for 20 years. This year, over 50 charity booths will be set up throughout the territory and about 1000 volunteers will participate in the campaign. Funds raised will be used to support the development of Lok Sin Tong’s medical, educational, elderly and social services.

Chairman Kwok added that Lok Sin Tong has a long history of 138 years and has worked vigorously in combating poverty in recent years, e.g. launching the Lok Sin Tong Community-based Housing Scheme which helps inadequately housed low-income families by providing transitional accommodation. All eligible tenants had already moved in earlier this year. With the HK$1 million donation from Sino-Ocean Group, Lok Sin Tong is going to run the second phase of the scheme. It is now recruiting flat owners and will invite new applications from needy families soon. The organization is also planning to open its third social enterprise in the second quarter of this year to offer quality and affordable rehabilitation products to elderly in need. In order to provide better service, there were also facility enhancements for its two neighbourhood elderly centres in Tsuen Wan and Happy Valley which had been completed recently.

Dr. Su Yu Hong, Chairman of the Campaign and Executive Committee Member of Lok Sin Tong, extended the gratitude to the sponsors, companies and subsidiary units for their generous donations and supports to the event during his thank-you speech. The volunteer team of his company, Swisso Club, also comprised 50 groups of parent-child volunteer to join the campaign. Dr. Su said that this is a good way for children to contribute to the community and he hoped that citizens can give them support.

The Guest of Honour, Ms. Kwan Shuk Yee, Nancy, officiated at the kick-off ceremony together with the Executive Committee Members of Lok Sin Tong and ambassador Vincy Chan. They wished the funds raised this year would be the highest amount ever. After that, Vincy performed a popular song and joined the candy sale as one of the volunteers at the charity booth. The response from the public was overwhelmed. 

Over 50 charity booths will be set up in specified MTR stations, shopping malls and outdoor locations over two consecutive weekends starting today until 25 March 2018. Each box of candy with 4 coupons offer inside is sold at the charity price of HK$20. Donor can enjoy the shopping privileges while supporting such a meaningful event. This year, Lok Sin Tong also invited the local comic group Postgal Workshop to design the candy box with the adorable image of the cartoon “Din-Dong” in order to make the campaign more attractive.
