Inauguration Ceremony of the Directors 2018/2019

(17 May 2018, Hong Kong) The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon (LST) held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Directors 2018/2019 today at 18/F, The Mira Hong Kong. The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr. Lau Kong Wah, JP, officiated at the ceremony where more than 500 guests attended including the directors, honorary advisers and members of Lok Sin Tong, government officials, community leaders, etc.

Ir. Kwok Yu Won, Eric, Chairman of 2017/2018, reported in the ceremony that Lok Sin Tong launched various new services and projects last year in order to provide Hong Kong citizens with the basic necessities for daily life. LST participated in the celebration events for the Hong Kong SAR's 20th Anniversary, e.g. held several large-scale volunteer services and successfully tendered for the gift pack production for the "Celebrations for All" project; launched the Lok Sin Tong Community-based Housing Scheme to help inadequately housed low-income families; established the Lok Sin Tong Welfare Building Renewal Fund; planned to open its third social enterprise which will provide quality and affordable rehabilitation products and services. The medical, educational and social welfare services were also going from strength to strength and continued to deliver quality community supports. He wished Mr. Lee Shing Put, Chairman of 2018/2019, and the new Board of Directors a fruitful and successful year.

Mr. Lee Shing Put, Chairman of 2018/2019, said that he will uphold the tradition of Lok Sin Tong to strive for excellence and perfection in charities. One of the major projects in this year is to help ethnic minorities move out of poverty by enhancing ethnic minority students’ proficiency in Chinese and providing employment supports to ethnic minority youth. LST will also launch the second phase of the Community-based Housing Scheme which will focus on solving the difficulties in daily life of low-income households. In terms of education, study trips in the Greater Bay Area will be organized for students to help them grasp the opportunities arising from the Mainland’s development and strengthen their life planning. LST will also organize a territory-wide science and technology innovation competition to enable the public to understand the development of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education in its subsidiary schools. LST is planning to open a primary care centre in Kowloon City to provide comprehensive medical service. Chairman Lee promised that he and Lok Sin Tong will make every effort to deliver better service to the public.
